Ride 06 · The team ride
Rail Nation
Run a railway company through six eras of trains, in rounds that actually end.
Rail Nation is the only ride on the midway with an end date. Each round lasts roughly three months, moving from steam to high-speed rail across six eras, and when it finishes the map resets and everyone starts again. Your railway hauls goods between cities, cities grow when they are fed, and the whole server races to level a chosen city first.
That structure changes everything about time. Early eras are relaxed; the last two weeks of a round are intense, with associations coordinating deliveries hour by hour. If you cannot be around for the endgame you will still have fun, but you will not be the one who decides it. Three short visits a day keep trains running; one long evening a week keeps you useful to your association.
Nobody can attack you. Competition is economic — the same goods, the same cities, the same bonus tracks — and it is sharper than it looks, because a well-run association can starve a rival city by out-delivering it. Train collection, engine upgrades and laboratory research give the solo player plenty to tune between deliveries.
Gold buys premium passes that automate the busy work and speed-ups that matter most at the end of a round. It is possible to place well without spending, and we did in a mid-table association, but the top of the leaderboard is pay-assisted on every server we checked. Fairness is middling for that reason; depth and the clean three-month arc are why it earns its place.
