Sunrise Village

A farm, a forest to clear and a cast of villagers with errands — the softest game here.

Sunrise Village is a farm game with an exploration spine. You inherit a run-down village, plant crops, feed animals and craft goods, but the thing that pulls you forward is the map: a fog-covered countryside you clear with an energy bar, revealing paths, campsites, treasure and villagers with stories. It plays like a storybook you tidy up as you read.

Energy is the real currency. It refills over time, every tree and rock costs some, and a visit usually ends when it runs out. That makes the pacing honest — ten minutes, twice a day — and also makes the ruby shop obvious: rubies buy energy. We never needed them, because waiting is the game, but the button is always there.

There is nothing competitive. No neighbours can attack, trade is with the game, and the social layer is limited to visiting friends. Orders from villagers and the board of requests give structure; seasonal events add a new corner of map and a few decorations. It is cosy by design, and the art and sound carry it.

Depth is deliberately shallow. Farm economies are small, crafting chains are short and the puzzle of clearing a region is mostly a question of how much energy you have banked. If you want a game to think about, look elsewhere on the midway. If you want one to settle into after work with a cup of tea, it is the easiest recommendation on this page.

Walk on by if…

  • You get restless when an energy bar empties

  • You dislike games that are mostly about waiting
